If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.

Before I get to the text of this blog, I absolutely must get this out of my system.

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!

There. I did it. Every time I see the name of this model I can’t help but hearing that in my head.

Anyway…

For a Nitto kit, this one was pretty good. I’ve not been able to develop the love and admiration that “old school” Ma. K builders have when it comes to kits from Nitto. While I really enjoy the newer kits from Wave, Hasegawa, Kaiyodo, and Max Factory, Nitto for me is more of a warning label than a brand.

And I’m not saying this as a novice. As a veteran of hundreds of kits both good and bad, most of the Nitto kits I’ve built were just bad. Not impossible by any means. But for someone who prefers a no drama, simple build experience, Nitto ain’t high on my list. In fact, they’re at the bottom. Only Special Hobby ranks lower.

However…

This kit was pretty good. Not great, of course. It took some work. But I felt that the work required was a reasonable price for the canvas for painting and weathering that it produced. And let me assure you, this is a magnificent hunk of plastic and various other nonsense media to apply all the techniques you know and want to throw at it.

Looking back on this (the videos are from 2020!) I can say my memories of the build have a bit of fondness. I think that is the way a good build should be. While there may be easy parts, difficult parts, and a few clench-your-jaw moments, once it is said and done, the net amount of fun far outweighs the challenges.

So while I have no affection for Nitto kits in general, there is a special place for a stompy goofball of a kit they call Jerry.

And now for our next guest, Jerry’s ex-girlfriend!

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!
