It was sometime in the summer of 2022 that I saw an image on the Warhammer Community site that really grabbed my attention. Seeing Astra Militarum troops and tanks always catches my eye, but these were painted in some very unusual colors.
While blue uniforms and white armor may not be the most tactical combination to wear on the battlefield, it certainly had a “cool” factor that caught my eye.
So what started as “Hey that looks kinda cool” became a little bit of an obsession to find out the “history” of the unit. The search took me through countless Google queries, and even to the 2016 Astra Militarum Codex. And while I found more photos and some brief detail on the tank commander himself, I was turning up a blank.
I just happened to be browsing through old copies of White Dwarf magazine on the Warhammer+ site when I found an article about painting those very blue troopers in the October 2017 edition. The article was written by one of the ‘eavy Metal team, Paul Norton.
Now in full stalker mode, I found Paul on Instragram, and messaged him straight away – what was the history on those Cadians?
Turns out it had been so long ago he couldn’t recall. Bummer. 🤷♂️
So I never did find out whether this was the 182nd Blue Falcon Regiment, or perhaps the 243rd Azul Fists Brigade. Or any other names which I randomly made up whilst typing this up.
Still, nothing was stopping me from actually painting them. Which gets us to the subject of this video.
“How to obsessively search for a way to paint tiny plastic soldiers, and then do so in a poor fashion despite having a printed article on the subject, and then write a brief article on it and post a YouTube video about it and expect people to take note.“
It’s not a catchy title, I’ll admit. But it is truthful.
