If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.

Academy’s 1/48 Spitfire Mk. XIVc: Dee-cals, Dek-huls, Whatever Sticks

The decals are on the big-nosed Spitfire. I used Xtradecal’s Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIV/XVIII Part 2 (X48-130), and they are some great, great decals. In fact, I’ve never been disappointed with any decals from Xtradecals.

Next step will be some weathering.

And if I haven’t already said it, this is a great kit. While it receives a lot of criticism for its shape- much of it deserved- it is a very enjoyable build. No headaches whatsoever.

  1. Looks really pretty Jon. What’s the issue with the kit? It certainly looks like a Spitfire!

In profile, the fuselage is a bit deep, a but to sharp along the spine, and the nose is just a bit off. It’s not awful if you’re a rivet estimator. It’s too much for a rivet counter, in most cases. It IS a great build though, and no one will mistake it for an aardvark or a can of asparagus.

      1. Thanks for the info Jon – It certainly looks the part!
