OK, technically the full name of the kit is “Max Factory 1/72 Fang of the Sun Dougram COMBAT ARMORS – MAX20: Soltic H102 Bushman Reinforced Pack Mounted Type”. But by the time anyone reads that, they’d already be asleep. And I figure my work is sleep inducing as-is, so I didn’t need that contributing to it.
Now, if you’re wanting to know what all that means… Fang of the Sun Dougram is an anime from the early 80s. It’s about… umm… some future stuff where there are wars and angsty teenagers riding around in giant mecha blowin’ stuff up real purty. (That’s a bit of a gloss over but basically sums it up.)
All I know is when I saw this kit it looked like a giant ant with guns and rockets. And that’s cool enough for me.
Assembly was easy enough. It was pretty close to Bandai fit and engineering. I kept the paint job simple, sticking pretty much to what the instructions gave as canon. I gave it a little weathering, but not too much.
I think this is one of those unsung kits that is what makes scifi modeling fun. Few people have heard of this anime… I know I hadn’t. But the cool design and great colors made this one really fun. In fact, it’s one of the few kits that I’ve not sold.
For some reason this is one little “fire ant” I don’t mind having in the house.
