The Speeder Truck is finished. I like the result, though I will admit that a lot of it is a result of being more focused on demonstrating techniques and various product types rather than pursuing a cohesive vision of what the finish should be.
I knew I wanted it filthy and dirty, and I did have some notion of an environment in mind. But that really only impacted color choice rather than specifics of weathering placement.
However, I think it brings out a point. Weathering, in the bare bones, stripped down, final analysis, is easy. It’s just a few techniques, a few products, and a few details of application.
The real work is in the “why”. Why those colors? Why that placement? Why that level of weathering? Those are the decisions that come from a narrative. It doesn’t matter so much if the narrative is driven by history (a Spitfire over Sword Beach on June 6, 1944), a movie (Luke’s X-Wing at the Battle of Yavin), or simply something from your own imagination. Like a Speeder Truck on a high desert planet with snow layers.
And sometimes, if you really run with it, the narrative can be as fun as the build. Maybe even more fun if you’re building Nitto or Special Hobby. 😄
Anyway, another model finished. Another video. Have fun with your hobby.
