Shop Talk: Avoiding Bad Hobby Advice

When I was growing up, I didn’t know anyone my age who didn’t build models. The trouble was that none of us really knew what we were doing. A few guys had older brothers who seemed to possess “secret knowledge”, but they never let us in on it.

And the guy at the hobby shop was nice enough, but a store full of pre-teen boys is not really a conducive retail environment.

Today of course we have more social media outlets than anyone can count. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, forums, manufacturer resources, books, magazines… help and advice is everywhere.

Sometimes though that “help” is not always helpful. People may be willing to give assistance, but many times their advice may not be the best solution. Yet sometimes it might be… but how do you know?

This video gives suggests some “filters” that you can use to evaluate the advice you read on the interwebz, and hopefully help you sift through it. And I also offer some suggestions about being part of the solution!

Be sure and subscribe to my YouTube channel so you can keep up with future video releases!
