Trumpeter 1/48 F9F-2 Panther- An Inside Job

Published on:

I’ve started work on Trumpeter’s 1/48 F9F-2 Panther kit, and so far it’s really looking like a winner. Excellent fit and detailing.

I’d not had it in mind to build one of these, but after completing KittyHawk’s 1/48 Banshee, it seemed like building another blue Navy jet from the Korean War would be a good idea.

I used some Eduard colored photoetch for this- the seat belts and instrument panel basically. The kit had no belts, and while the kit instrument panel was OK, I thought the Eduard set looked better. I decided against using the side consoles from the p/e set. While they looked nice, they were just too flat. Plus, I liked the relief of the kit parts. The rest of the photoetch set- lots of tiny handles and levers- went into the trash. Can’t stand those little things….

On to closing up the fuselage and getting the full airframe together.
